Corporate Responsibility
Corporate responsibility is more and more becoming a staple of any organizationâs core values and mission. With more attention focusing on the environment, human rights, community development, and the welfare of workers both in the United States and abroad, many organizations are assuming responsibility for making the world a better placeâand not just making themselves more profitable. This is done both in recognition of the moral responsibility that companiesâas corporate citizensâassume in light of the many challenges facing our world today, and also for the public recognition that comes from sponsoring a good cause. Much like a solid diversity orientation strategy, corporate responsibility is not only the right thing to do intrinsically, but it also brings with it good faith and loyalty from the public, which is good for business. In short, companies will gain a competitive advantage by appealing to the growing numbers of socially and environmentally oriented consumers, investors, and workers.
Unlike the other descriptions weâve covered in this section, there arenât necessarily grades or levels of corporate responsibility that differentiate themselves, so weâll go with one generic descriptor you can amend for your performance appraisal template as you see fit:
